Square's New iPad App Set to Challenge Traditional Cash Registers
Mobile payments startup Square, founded by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey with Jim McKelvey, are releasing an upgrade to their iPad app set to challenge traditional cash registers. Named Square Register, the app not only receives credit cards for payments, it now produces analytics for businesses to better understand their customers.
For consumers, Square is launching the Square Card Case app, which fills in 'membership cards' of merchants from whom you've bought things using the Square app. You can access information like location, purchase history, items available for sale, and you can also use the app to pay directly to the merchant without whipping out your credit card since they already have your card information from previous purchases.
At this time, Square's services are only available with 50 merchants across the United States, but here's hoping this innovation in payment will reach us sometime soon. Get more details over at TechCrunch's comprehensive coverage.
