Spotify now comes with Chromecast support

Having more options for bringing your favorite on-demand playlist to where you go is always a good thing. So Spotify did everyone a solid one –by announcing their support of the new Chromecast and Chromecast Audio casting while using their streaming services. The compatibility will be made available after a Spotify firmware update over the next few weeks.

All Spotify users will be able to use Chromecast, while only Spotify Premium users can use Chromecast Audio (which you should read here if you don’t know how Chromecast Audio works), and it doesn’t matter if you’re using iOS or Android mobile devices to start the process. While Google did list Spotify as one of their supported services for the Chromecast Audio, Spotify was actually kind enough to list down the proper steps necessary for a fuss-free casting session, which you can read on their Support website.

Connecting Google’s dongle is fairly straightforward, and you will need a HDMI port on your television (for Chromecast), or a 3.5mm optical input port (for Chromecast Audio) to insert the dongles. Once you’re done configuring the Chromecast device via the dongle’s app, simply enter Spotify on iOS or Android and start a song. Once a song is playing, proceed to the ‘Devices Available’ at the Now Playing screen and select Chromecast.

The iOS version requires 4.0 or later of Spotify, whereas Android requires Android 4.0 or later, Spotify version 3.7 or later, and the latest version Google Play Services.
