Spotify gives you more music to game by on Sony devices

Like the other versions, Spotify on PS4 is free, with a Premium membership option available.

One of the main reasons the Xbox 360 won last generation's console war was because it had unique exclusives, better performing third party games and Xbox Live was a much better service compared to PSN. If you look down further on the list of reasons, you'll find that custom music is sure to be on it too. Of all the consoles from the past generation, only the Xbox 360 allowed gamers to rip music from CDs, save them to the Xbox 360's HDD and then use them anytime they want.

That feature's available on current consoles, but isn't as supported or convenient. On the Xbox One, you'll need to download an app, as well have a PC ready to stream music from. On the PS4, you need to have a connected USB device. Both are hardly ideal. So what do you do if you want to play the Rocky theme while you're getting smacked around in Bloodborne? Use Spotify.

Coming to the PS4 (and other Sony devices) as part of Sony's Playstation Music initiative, Spotify is an online streaming service. It's free, although like everywhere else, there's also a Premium monthly membership ($9.90) that you can pay to get the audio in higher quality, with no ads. On other Spotify supported devices such as the PC, you can even download the songs and play them offline if you're a Premium member, though that option seems to be missing on on the PS4.

You'll need to link your Spotify and PSN accounts to use Spotify on the PS4 or other Sony devices, but that's pretty much all there is to what you need to get started. The PS4 Spotify app also supports the mobile or tablet versions of the app too. If you use the mobile Spotify app's Spotify Connect feature, you can pair your smart device with your PS4 and have it serve as a remote.

The Spotify app is not only available on the PS4, it is also available for the PS3 and Xperia devices.
