Sony's X850 4K UHDTVs Don't Have Magnetic Fluid Speakers, But are Cheaper than the X900

Tempted by the Sony X900 series of 4K UHD TVs, but just can't afford one? Well, Sony has now eased this headache a little bit by introducing the X850 series, and at a slightly lower price, no less. There are two models in the X850 series: the XBR-55X850A or KD-55X8505A stands at 55 inches, the XBR-65X850A or KD-65X8505A 65 inches. At US$3,500 and US$5,000 respectively, each is US$500 cheaper than their counterpart of the same size in the X900 series.

Besides the 4K UHD resolution (3,840 x 2,160), the X850 and X900 share many similarities, such as HDMI 2.0 support (via a firmware update due end of the year), Sony's Triluminos display tech, and Motionflow XR 960. The main two differences are that the X900 sports Sony's Magnetic Fluid speakers, while the X850 uses a bass-reflex speaker system, and that the X900 does passive 3D, while the X850 relies on active 3D tech.

Availability and pricing info of the X850 series in Singapore aren't available at this moment. To give you an idea, the KD-55X90004A and KD-65X9004A (the model numbers here are a bit different) have a retail price of S$6,999 and S$9,999 respectively. So, do your math to get a ballpark.
