Sony's latest Xperia X smartphones will replace the Z series
Two official sources hinted that the three-year-old Xperia Z series will be replaced by the recently announced Xperia X series.
Sony Mobile Germany apparently responded to a user's query on future Xperia models and confirmed that the Xperia X series will replace the Z series. In its official press release, Sony Mobile describes the X series as a "re-imagined Xperia brand" which focuses on delivering "increasingly personalised and intelligent products to enrich everyday life".
Jun Makino, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Sony Mobile, reportedly told uSwitch that the company will not be releasing a Z6. When asked if there are plans to add new members to the Z series, Makino said that he "can't comment on the future".
This makes the Xperia Z5 Premium, the Z5 and Z5 Compact as the last generation of Z series smartphones. They were announced in September at IFA 2015. If you are interested to know more about the Xperia X series, do check out our hands-on article.
