Sony's 84-inch Bravia KD-84X9000 TV to Ship with Feature-Length Ultra HD Content? (Updated)

Just in:- According to Sony, the 4K TV entertainment delivery bundle applies to U.S. customers only. We'll let you know again if Sony decides to extend this offer to Asia as well.

Sony's mega-sized Ultra HD display will only arrive on our shores in early 2013, as reported previously. More recently, an article published on Sony's blog suggests that the Japanese CE maker is now planning to ship the 84-inch Bravia KD-84X9000 with a "4K Ultra HD delivery solution pre-loaded with native 4K entertainment". Details about this alleged Ultra HD package are sketchy at the moment, but HDTVtest believes it is likely to be a "PC-based media server" of sorts.

Here's a snippet of Sony's article and the "Ultra HD delivery solution" as teased by their public relations manager, Ray Hartjen.

"In the next couple of weeks, the XBR-84X900 television will ship to customers who placed pre-orders since the product introduction in September. As an extra bonus, included free with the purchase will be the world’s first 4K Ultra HD delivery solution, complete with pre-loaded, native 4K entertainment. Not some goofy 4K content shot as a demo. I’m talking full length feature Hollywood productions, and available exclusively to purchasers of Sony’s 84-inch 4K Ultra HD TV"

There are two major hurdles plaguing large-screen Ultra HD displays at the moment - a lack of native 4K content, and exorbitant price tags capable of depleting bank accounts. For instance, Sony's X9000 costs a staggering S$35,999, and it only makes sense that the company is seeking to entice consumers with native 4K content to complement the very expensive Ultra HD screen. LG unveiled the 84-inch LM9600 sometime in October, and while it is noticeably cheaper than Sony's 4K Bravia, S$24,999 is not for the faint of heart as well.

We're still waiting for Sony's reply in the meantime. But rest assured you'll be the first to know once we find out if this "Ultra HD delivery solution" applies to X9000 sets landing on our sunny island too. And more importantly, is it really free?
