Sony Xperia X smartphone is now available in retail and from telcos

Sony's Xperia X, the first in the company's new line of X-series of smartphones, has started retail today and is available through telcos too.

Still maintaining much of Xperia Z's design touch, the Xperia X series has taken it a notch forward in refinement, feel and even the choice of colors. Battery durability is also enhanced through the incorporation of Qnovo Adaptive Charging which closely governs the right amount of charge to deliver to the phone while juicing it up at various battery percentage levels and even shut off charging completely once the battery is full. The other major focus is in the camera usage experience and performance.

We've detailed a fair bit of the Xperia X in our pre-order news a week earlier, but the key specs of the phone includes 5.0-inch Full HD screen, a 23-megapixel rear camera with a 24mm lens at f/2.0 aperture that comes with SteadyShot video stabilization and Predictive Hybrid Autofocus. It's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor paired with 3GB RAM and comes with 64GB internal storage. The Singapore variants have dual-SIM support too.

If there's one major point to take note between the Xperia Z and Xperia X, it's that the new phone isn't water and dust-resistant.

Availability, pricing and promotional details

The phone's official suggested retail price is S$848 and is available at all the usual retail outlets and Sony stores island-wide. If you act soon, you can benefit from the launch promotion that includes redemption of 12 movies through the Xperia Lounge app, Sony MDR-ZX110AP swivel-folding design headphones and the Sony SBC20 Clear Case made for Xperia X - a combined total value of S$268!

What about telco price plans? They are as follows:-

Here's a few parting photos of the phone below, but be sure to check our hands-on experience, and a photo gallery to know more about the Xperia X. Watch out for our review of the phone really soon. Next up, the Xperia XA will be launched on 2nd July.

The phone supports double-tapping on the screen to wake it up (as opposed to pressing the power button) and there's even an option to use facial recognition to unlock the phone.

Fingerprint sensor is integrated with the power button.
