Sony, Strontium Announce USB OTG Drives for Smartphones and Tablets

Owners of smartphones or tablets with no microSD card slot, rejoice! Sony and Strontium have individually announced USB OTG (On-The-Go) flash drives which serve as external storage for your smartphones and tablets.

Compatible with Android devices with USB flash drive connectivity utilizing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and above, the Sony dual-USB flash drive features Micro-USB and Type A USB 2.0 connectors for sharing and storing content. Sony is also planning for future compatibility with the Android 4.4 KitKat platform. Meanwhile, Strontium USB OTG drives have a standard USB port on one end and a Micro-USB on the other, allowing you to access directly from a PC or from any smartphone/tablet that supports USB OTG.

The Sony USB flash drives in capacities of 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB, will retail for US$19.99, US$29.99, and US$62.99, respectively, come January 2014. They will be available in 3 cap colors. A companion Sony file manager app can be downloaded for free on the Google Play store.

The Strontium On-The-Go USB drives in capacities ranging from 8GB to 64GB will be backed by a 5-year warranty.
