Sony’s second ultra-short-throw 4K HDR home theater projector is still great and expensive
Sony has just announced the VPL-VZ1000ES, an ultra-short-throw 4K HDR home theater projector at CES 2017.
Using Sony’s Z-Phosphor laser light source and sporting native 4K resolution (it uses SXRD panels, of course), it can achieve a 100-inch, 16:9 projection at just six inches away from the wall. It's compatible with HDR content and its color light output is rated 2,500 lumens.
Encased in a black chassis measuring 925 x 494 x 219mm and weighing about 35kg, the VPL-VZ1000ES is definitely not your carry about kind of projector. That said, it’s already some 40% smaller and 36% lighter than the VPL-GTZ1, Sony’s first 4K ultra-short-throw projector.
The VPL-VZ1000ES will be available in Asia Pacific from April 2017. Local pricing isn’t available yet, but in the U.S., it’ll be retailing for US$25,000 (~S$35,800).
