Sony: Our Most Compact XDCAM Camcorder Will Be Out This Year

Sony today announced that it's developing a new compact XDCAM camcorder that does XAVC recording, and is displaying a mockup unit for the first time at its booth at BroadcastAsia 2014, which is currently on-going at Marina Bay Sands.

Sitting at the bottom of Sony's solid-state memory XDCAM camcorder lineup, this unnamed camcorder is targeted at those who need a small (but no less professional) camcorder for their work, such as schools and event agencies. It will feature a 20-megapixel, 1.0-type Exmor R CMOS sensor, and support XAVC Long GOP and 422 10-bit sampling. Of course, with such specs, it should appeal to AV professionals too, especially those looking for a secondary, more portable camcorder to go along with their shoulder camcorders, like the Sony PMW-400.

If this is the compact professional camcorder you've been waiting for, the other good news is that you shouldn't have to wait too long. Sony intends to have it ready by this year.
