Sony Mobile denies exit from mobile business if there is no profit in 2016

Sony Mobile CEO Hiroki Totoki has stepped in again to clear the air regarding reports earlier this month that there are "alternative options" for the mobile business if it does not bring in profits next year.

Jonathan Lin, the general manager of Sony Mobile's Taiwan branch, reportedly told Focus Taiwan that Totoki assured him in a meeting on 19th October that the company does not have any plans to withdraw from the mobile industry.

Focus Taiwan - "On the contrary, Sony Mobile will offer phones that will have better screens, improved cameras and will be more energy efficient to enable a better user experience," Lin said at a press event to launch the Xperia Z5 Premium flagship phone in Taiwan.

In an interview with Arabian Business early in July, Totoki described 2015 as "a year of transformation" and the company is committed in delivering the best user experience for consumers. However, its mobile revenue is expected to drop further this year to a whopping ¥60 billion. Will the new range of Xperia Z5 smartphones help reverse the company's decline in the mobile space? We shall see.
