Sony introduces new constant f/4 full-frame zoom lenses for Alpha E-mount cameras

Sony’s latest full-frame lens – Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS (SEL1635Z) – offers photo enthusiasts a quality wide-angle zoom option in a compact, portable design. With Optical SteadyShot in-lens image stabilization as well as a dust and moisture resistant design, the SEL1635Z is great for landscape, interior or architecture photography, and works perfectly with Sony’s A7 series or their E-mount cameras and camcorders.

The lens features five aspherical lens elements, with one large AA (advanced aspherical) element and three ED glass elements, helping the SEL1635Z hold distortion and color aberration down to a minimum while still obtaining excellent corner-to-corner sharpness. As with all Zeiss lenses, the T* coating minimizes flare and ghosting, thus boosting contrast, clarity and depth.

The Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm F4 ZA OSS (SEL1635Z) full-frame wide-angle zoom lens will be available in selected Asia Pacific countries from November 2014. Pricing information has yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, the SELP28135G FE PZ 28-135mm F4 G OSS lens is Sony’s first full-frame powered zoom lens for the Alpha E-mount camera system, and addresses the concerns of focus breathing, focus shifts during zoom, and movement of the optical axis during zoom.

Focus noise is cut to a minimum by reducing the weight of the focus element and using a double linear motor to drive the focus element group. While the SSM drive makes for smooth and silent zooming – a must for professional movie production.

The constant f/4 maximum aperture gives you stable exposure control across the entire zoom range, and beautiful depth of field effects, while the lens gains ergonomics gleaned from Sony’s professional range of film cameras, with three separate rings for control over focus, zoom and aperture. Every ring has been adjusted with optimal torque for responsive feel and slip-free fingertip control, and at just 162.5 mm in length and weighing just 1125g, makes an excellent option for professional photographers and movie-makers alike.

Pricing and availability to be announced.
