Sony introduces new 4K HDR TV lineup

Not to be outdone by LG and Samsung, Sony has also brought its latest 4K TVs to CES 2016. And leading the charge are the X93D and X85D.

The X93D is the new flagship, and sports Sony’s new Slim Backlight Drive technology that uses a new grid-array backlighting structure. Available in 55 and 65-inch screen sizes, the slim design allows it to sit close to the wall, which Sony says leaves “behind nothing but the picture itself”. 4K Processor X1, X-tended Dynamic Range Pro, Triluminos Display tech, and Android TV support are some of the other familiar features.

There’s also a 75-inch X94D with a slim direct-lit LED backlight unit, but there’s no word if it’d be coming to Singapore.

A notch down is the X85D, which is available in 55, 65, and 75-inch screen sizes. It also features 4K Processor X1, Triluminos Display tech, 4K X-Reality Pro engine, and runs the Android TV platform.

It’s unclear if the X93D and X85D will feature the Ultra HD Premium logo. What’s known is Sony will soon slap its own “4K HDR” logo onto its 4K TVs that support HDR.

HD and full HD sets

If you’re looking for HD and full HD sets, there are also new models in the W series. Available in 32 to 49-inch screen sizes, the W75D, W65D, and W60D are designed with sleek lines and an elegant slim display to complement your home interior. They also have a Clear Phase audio technology that analyses and compensates for inaccuracies in the built-in loud speaker’s response.

Upcoming tech: Backlight Master Drive

Sony also has on deck a 85-inch prototype that uses a new Backlight Master Drive tech. In a nutshell, this tech enables precise backlight boosting using ultra-high density direct LED backlights. Paired with X-tended Dynamic Range Pro, dynamic range and brightness are improved significantly; the latter up to 4,000 nits.
