Smartphones have somewhat featured the Facebook social network quite prominently, through the official Facebook app or some form of integration via its contacts and photos. This has been seen on Microsoft's Windows Phone 7, and even upcoming Facebook-focused HTC phones, the HTC Salsa and Chacha. Sony Ericsson has also joined the social network call with an upcoming Facebook integration for its current and upcoming Xperia series of Android smartphones.
GSM Arena - Sony Ericsson just announced they plan to bump up the Facebook integration on their XPERIA phones to a whole new level. Beyond the obvious single sign-on and contacts and calendar sync, Facebook will now show its face at numerous places throughout the Xperia user interface.
The Facebook integration goes beyond the usual contacts and calendar sync. According to Sony Ericsson, this upcoming update will allow users to view Facebook photos within the phone's Gallery, a Like-button on your Music Player that posts straight to your Facebook account, and a media discovery widget that shows links shared by your friends. These features aren't exactly groundbreaking and some have been seen on HTC devices, but as they say, better late than never, which will be rolled out across the Xperia devices by Q2 2011.
