Sony admits that the Xperia Z3+ and Z4 have heating issues, fix is on the way
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 overheating saga continues as Sony reportedly admits that its two latest smartphones are having overheating issues.
According to GSMInfo, Sony issued a statement confirming that there are overheating issues on its Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 smartphones. A software update will be sent out in the coming weeks to fix these problems.
The two smartphones are said to be using a second generation Snapdragon 810 processor with better thermal regulation, but users continue to face overheating issues on their phones. Apparently, Xperia Z4 users complained on Twitter about their devices feeling very hot. The recently announced Xperia Z3+ also has its fair share of problems; using the camera for too long will prompt warning messages to turn off the camera so that the phone can cool down.
Business Korea first reported of such problems in the Snapdragon 810 processors last December. This apparently forced Samsung to drop the processor from the Galaxy S6 although HTC and LG continued to use the chipset for their respective flagship smartphones.
It wasn't a wise choice for the two companies; HTC later issued a software update that specifically mentioned thermal improvements alongside camera tweaks and LG confirming that there were indeed problems with the initial batch of processors.
