Skype Announces Skype 5.0 for iPhone

According to the people at Skype, their new mobile app is the version you were waiting for, even if you didn’t know it. Skype 5.0 for iPhone shares a consistent look with the Windows Phone and Android apps, but has actually been rewritten from the ground up to allow for a smoother, more integrated experience.

Here are some of the main improvements:

Faster – The new version is over five times faster than the old version.

Smoother – Scrolling and transitioning is smoother as you swipe from conversation to conversation, with delightful little pops and animations. Better yet, the improved graphics don’t degrade performance or affect battery life.

More Integrated – iPhone users can now start group chats from the hub. Messages and photos can also be sent even if the recipient is offline. Messages will be received once they’re online again.

Smarter – Skype for iPhone now supports simultaneous use with other devices. As soon as you read messages on your PC, tablet, Xbox and so on, those conversations will be marked as read on your iPhone too.

A new iPad version is also in the works, and Skype for iPhone is set to be released in about a week. Meanwhile, users can check out the new experience on the Skype for iPhone page.
