Singtel tops IDA reports of mobile coverage and download speeds

A recently conducted 4G Mobile Service Coverage study by IDA has found Singtel to have the widest outdoor 4G coverage at 99.77 percent. All three telcos fared well in the coverage tests, with M1 coming in second with 98.64 percent coverage, and StarHub third with 98.38 percent coverage.

IDA has also published the findings of its six-month-long MyConnection SG study, which aims to test telco download speeds. Typical download speeds were fairly close between the three telcos. IDA measured the lower, middle and upper limits of the download speed experienced by 80% of data sessions, and reported the median 50th percentile. For 4G speeds, M1's typical speed was actually slightly better at 43.7Mbps compared to Singtel's 43.2. StarHub was not far behind at 40.5Mbps.

However, there was only one winner when it came to fastest peak download speeds, which is classified as the maximum download speed attained in at least 50% of the data sessions. Singtel outshone its competitors attaining a top speed of 118.9Mbps over 4G. By comparison, M1 reached 84.4Mbps, and StarHub 82.1Mbps. Singtel also attained the fastest 3G download speed at 38.1Mbps, with StarHub in second at 25.4Mbps and M1 third with 19.7Mbps.
