SingTel: Server Glitch Caused Intermittent Mobile Data Access, Service Restored Within 20 Minutes

Thanks to a tip off from a reader, we were alerted to some customers' feedback on SingTel Facebook Page on difficulties accessing mobile data services in the late morning.

We reached out to SingTel for verification and a company spokesperson issued the following statements:

SingTel - “Some customers may have experienced intermittent difficulties with mobile Internet access at approximately 11:05am due to a server glitch. A backup server was automatically activated and we advised affected customers that they could continue to access data services by restarting their mobile phones. Our fully redundant system restored itself and all data services were normalised within 20 minutes. Voice and SMS services continued to operate normally during this time.”

Apparently, a server glitch led to intermittent mobile data access for some SingTel customers. Fortunately, the telco's backup system was activated and service was normalized within 20 minutes. The company spokesperson stressed that this is not considered a service outage.

This incident happened one day after a call processing software issue caused a five-hour service outage for M1. Many customers were unable to send text messages, make voice calls or access mobile data services.
