SHORE, a new Google Glass app to detect your emotions

SHORE, a new Google Glass application that is able to detect human emotions, has been launched. Developed by Fraunhofer IIS, the app uses real-time facial recognition technology to determine the subject’s emotional state.

The company has adapted its “SHORE real-time face detection and analysis software to work with Google Glass.” The firm believes that the application will make a positive impact on people who are afflicted with disorders like autism. Such sufferers usually have difficulties interpreting emotions from facial expressions. Hence, this is where SHORE comes in as a form of communication aid. SHORE is also able to estimate the subject’s age and gender; however, it cannot identify the person. SHORE operates in real-time, and all processing is done locally by the built-in processor of Google Glass. After that, the data is displayed on screen, and it can be relayed to the user by audio.

Besides acting as a communication aid, SHORE can be applied to “interactive games or market research analyses.” According to the company, due to SHORE’s high-level of customization, it can move beyond its Google Glassware scope for deployment to smartphone, tablets and other portable computing devices.
