Shoot Panoramic Photos in 3D with Sony's Latest Cyber-shot Cameras

The stylish Cyber-shot cameras deliver cutting-edge imaging features such as 3D Sweep Panorama and Full HD video recording

Asia Pacific, 8 July 2010 – Sony Electronics Asia Pacific expands its stylishly slim Cyber-shot T series and power-packed Cyber-shot W series range with the new Cyber-shot DSC-TX9, DSC-T99 and DSC-WX5 cameras. In line with Sony’s promise to deliver an extensive suite of 3D entertainment products and services, the Cyber-shot DSC-TX9 and DSC-WX5 are the world’s first digital still cameras that are able to capture panoramic photos in 3D[1].

Primed for capturing DSLR quality images, the latest Cyber-shot DSC-TX9 and DSC-WX5 are equipped with a 25mm and 24mm wide-angle lens respectively, 12.2 megapixel “Exmor R” CMOS image sensor and Full HD (1920 x 1080, 50i) AVCHD recording capability that produce stunning, high-resolution photos and videos. Equally impressive is the sleek Cyber-shot DSC-T99, which stands out with its stylishly-crafted aluminum chassis and advanced imaging features such as Super HAD CCD image sensor, 25mm wide-angle lens and 4x optical zoom lens.

Cyber-shot DSC-WX5

Adding a third dimension to digital imaging possibilities, the Cyber-shot DSC-TX9 and DSC-WX5 offer photo enthusiasts the unique opportunity to capture panoramic photos in 3D with Sony’s exclusive 3D Sweep Panorama function. With this easy-to-use function, users simply sweep the camera in a horizontal or vertical direction to capture impressive, ultra-wide panorama shots in 3D that users can view on any compatible LCD TV that supports 3D viewing via HDMI.

The 3D experience is further enhanced with Sweep Multi View. When activated, the camera simultaneously shoots and stores 15 images from different viewpoints, creating three-dimensional visuals. Users can view images with 3D visual effects on the camera screen immediately after shooting by tilting the camera.

The Cyber-shot DSC-TX9 and DSC-WX5 are also optimised with Background Defocus mode, allowing budding photographers to capture portrait and macro photos with the attractive blurred background effect that previously could only be achieved with DSLR cameras. For capturing fast moving scenes such as sports matches, both cameras are also equipped with high-speed continuous shooting of 10 frames per second (fps) as well as Full HD AVCHD (1920 x 1080, 50i) video recording.

For ease of use, the DSC-TX9 and DSC-WX5 both integrate a new Superior Auto Shooting mode. When activated, the camera automatically chooses the optimal settings to match the shooting scene and conditions with the press of the shutter button. Additionally, the new cameras minimize the need for photo editing with the new Soft Skin mode, which helps to enhance the subject’s facial features by removing blemishes and defining the eyes and lips to for beautiful portrait shots. Photographers can choose from 3 Soft Skin modes (low, medium, high) and enhance the faces of up to 8 people simultaneously.

The Cyber-shot DSC-TX9 features a high performance retractable Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, “Exmor R” CMOS sensor with approximately twice the sensitivity compared to conventional CMOS sensors, wide-angle 25 mm lens and 4x optical zoom. Offering equally impressive features is the flagship Cyber-shot W series, DSC-WX5 with a 24mm wide-angle (35mm equivalent) f/2.4 G lens, 5x Optical Zoom, “Exmor R” CMOS sensor, as well as high-speed, high quality BIONZ imaging processor for clear and crisp images.

Cyber-shot DSC-T99

Meticulously designed, the Cyber-shot DSC-T99 presents smooth curves fashioned on a sleek aluminium frame. Luxuriously designed, the camera is available in five chic colours to complement the individual style of its users. Photographers can choose from a brushed finish of black or silver, or the satin matte finish in pink, green or violet.

The DSC-T99 also integrates a the Super HAD CCD image sensor with approximately 14.1 effective megapixel resolution, 25mm wide-angle Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens and 4x optical zoom, offering superb clarity in any shooting environment. Users can also capture dynamic, panoramic scenes with the Intelligent Sweep Panorama mode and photograph their subjects with soft focus using the Soft Skin mode. For budding movie directors, the camera also features 720p HD movie recording so users can easily create their own movies and video projects.

Enhancing compatibility, the new Cyber-shot cameras are compatible with Sony’s Memory Stick™ and SD / SDHC /SDXC memory cards. In addition, the new in-camera application PMB Portable enables users to upload images directly from the camera to photo sharing websites via USB without going through the hassle of downloading images onto their computer first.

The new Cyber-shot cameras will be available in Asia Pacific from September 2010.
