Sharp to Release 12MP CMOS Camera for Smartphones
Sharp to Release 1/3.2-inch, 12 Megapixel CMOS camera module
To help make the smaller and slimmer smartphone demanded by consumers, Sharp Corporation has come up with a 12.1-Megapixel, 1/3.2-inch CMOS camera module with optical image stabilization. The camera module has the thinnest profile in the market, with a height of just 5.47mm.
The optical image stabilization system in the camera module uses a lens-shift system to control the lens, enabling steady and sharp images to be shot in situations prone to blurring caused by camera-shake. The new camera module can also capture video in Full-HD.
Sharp will be shipping samples of its camera module from 2 December 2011, so let's hope these make it into upcoming smartphones soon.
