Shanghai Consumer Council demands answers from Apple about iPhone slowdowns

Besides dealing with numerous lawsuits around the world and questioning from U.S lawmakers, Apple now has to answer to a letter sent by the Shanghai Consumer Council about the iPhone slowdowns.

According to Reuters, the Chinese consumer watchdog sent a letter to Apple on Monday demanding an explanation for the iPhone slow-down and additional information about what it planned to do to address the issue. The Shanghai Consumer Council added that it received 2,615 complaints about Apple products and services in 2017, which is more than double the number of complaints (964) in 2015.

Apple admitted last month that it deliberately slowed down older iPhone models to deal with the phones' aging batteries, which resulted in class action lawsuits being filed against Apple. The iPhone maker now offers to replace out of warranty iPhone batteries for US$29 (S$38) to appease angry customers.
