Senior Ford executive thinks Apple can succeed in the automobile industry

Apple's rumored electric car, the Apple Car, gets a rare praise from a leading automobile brand.

According to Trusted Reviews, Don Butler, Executive Director for Connected Vehicles and Services at Ford thinks that Apple has what it takes to succeed in the automobile industry. To be fair, Butler also mentioned that Google has the potential too.

Trusted Reviews - "We welcome others joining. We welcome the activity that’s in the space. We think it’s exciting. It’s actually changed that we are embracing,” said Butler, speaking to TrustedReviews at the CES 2016 tradeshow in Las Vegas. “So I think Apple can do it. I think Google can do it.”

The nod from Ford is considered unique considering the amount of skepticism surrounding the Apple Car. Former General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz reportedly said that "there is absolutely no reason to assume that Apple is going to be financially successful in the electric car business", citing experience and technical expertise in making batteries as barriers for Apple's entry.

Nonetheless, there is evidence that Apple is moving into the automobile industry with the registration of three domain names and testing of electric and possibly, self-driving cars in North California.
