Seagate and Micron have jointly announced an alliance that will encompass the strategic supply of NAND and a commitment toward developing next-generation storage solutions. According to Seagate, the agreement will establish "a framework for combining the innovation and expertise of both companies."

More specifically, the agreement will allow Seagate to secure a "strategic supply of NAND", which is crucial to the company's aims of developing SSD solutions for consumer and enterprise markets. Remember, Seagate acquired LSI's flash business division from Avago last year. LSI acquired SandForce - the company behind the popular SandForce SF-2281 controller - in 2012 for around US$370 million.

Additionally, Seagate and Micron will work together to develop SAS SSDs for enterprise customers. The enterprise market has been identified as an area of growth of flash businesses.
