SanDisk's ambitions in the enterprise space is not without precedent, the company has made a number of acquisitions in the past few years to signal its intentions to compete in the enterprise space. In June 2013 it acquired Smart Storage Systems, and a year later it acquired Fusion-io.

And now, SanDisk has just announced its new storage platform called InfiniFlash. InfiniFlash is an all-flash array that was designed specifically to meet enterprise needs and hyperscale workloads such as big data analytics, content repositories, and media streaming. According to SanDisk, InfiniFlash will provide 5 times the density, 50 times the performance, and 4 times the reliability all while consuming 80% less power than a standard HDD array.

More importantly perhaps for users, InfiniFlash will cost less than US$1 per gigabyte. In comparison, current all-flash arrays can cost as much as US$20 per gigabyte, so the InfiniFlash offers huge savings.

SanDisk's new InfiniFlash platform will be available in three configurations - IF100, IF500 and IF700 - and each are designed with different users and applications in mind. Furthermore, each chassis has slots for up to 64 8TB memory cards for a maximum of 512TB. SanDisk will also offer a smaller 256TB units.
