Samsung's new smart TVs to run Tizen
Samsung has revealed that all of its smart TVs in 2015 will be on a new platform built around the Tizen operating system. Yes, that Tizen, which we've already seen on some Samsung smartphones and smart watches.
So, what’s new? For one, Samsung’s Smart Hub TV interface is still there, though it’s now been redesigned (again) to enable even easier navigation and quicker access to content. Seamless sharing between the TV and other devices is a major focus this time, and Samsung is leveraging on technologies like Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth Low Energy, with the latter enabling the TV to automatically search and connect to nearby Samsung mobile devices. In fact, the TV doesn't even need to be turned on to stream shows to your mobile device.
Samsung has also announced new content partnerships. Highlights include the PlayStation Now cloud-streaming game service (only in North America) and Ubisoft’s Just Dance Now dance game.
Samsung’s Tizen-based smart TVs are expected at CES 2015, which runs from January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas. We should have more info about this new platform come next week, so watch this space.
