Features first seen in the Note8's camera module could soon be available in entry-level and mid-range smartphones.

Samsung has announced new ISOCELL dual image sensors and software that it says will bring the bokeh effect and excellent low-light performance of its Note8 rear camera to entry-level and mid-range smartphones.

“Dual cameras are delivering new and exciting photo-taking experiences on mobile devices,” said Ben K. Hur, vice president of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung’s total solution for ISOCELL Dual will make our customers’ product development process easier, allowing them to bring the most optimized dual camera features to a wider range of consumers.”

Samsung will make the technology available to other OEMs, offering both a Portrait Mode (bokeh-effect) camera module equipped with 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors, and a low light camera module equipped with dual 8-megapixel sensors.
