Samsung's new AI assistant may just be an upgraded version of S Voice
We've heard a lot on the capabilities of Samsung's new AI assistant on the Galaxy S8, but its technology might not be based on technology from its acquisition of Viv.
The Wall Street Journal claims that the new AI assistant has been upgraded from S Voice by Samsung's engineers over the past few months. In addition, it is able to "answer voiced questions from users" and can be activated via a dedicated hardware button.
As a quick recap, S Voice was introduced four years ago on the Galaxy S III smartphone. Samsung has shared little information on what the new AI assistant can do, but states that it will "allow customers to use third-party services seamlessly". Other rumored features include visual search and optical character recognition (OCR) and the ability to support up to 8 languages at launch.
