Is Samsung working on its own Turtle Glass displays for mobile devices?

Samsung currently uses Corning Gorilla Glass 4 in the displays of the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+.

Samsung is one of the 40 major brands to use Corning Gorilla Glass for its mobile devices, but the company may be developing its own branded glass for use in future devices.

According to Slash Gear, Samsung Display has registered a new display titled Turtle Glass under the Korean Intellectual Patent Office. Turtle Glass could be developed as an alternative to Corning Gorilla Glass which is now used on nearly 4 billion devices worldwide.

Some of its flagship devices such as the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ use the latest Gorilla Glass 4 which is designed to address screen breakages from accidental drops. If Samsung is indeed developing its own protective glass, it could potentially lower the manufacturing costs of its mobile devices.
