Samsung today announced its seventh wearable device, the Gear S2. It comes in two models - the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic. The main differences between the two models are the color of the case and type of watch band.

Its unique feature is the rotating bezel which can be used to navigate the interface alongside the Home and Back buttons. There will also be a 3G version of the watch, which allows you to make and receive voice calls. Here's a quick overview of the color and band options:

  • Gear S2 - dark gray case with dark gray band
  • Gear S2 - silver case with white band
  • Gear S2 Classic - black case with leather band

The Gear S2 sports a 1.2-inch circular Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. It is powered by a dual-core 1.0GHz processor, 512MB RAM and comes with 4GB internal storage space. Other specs include IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, a 250mAh battery (stated to last up to 2-3 days) and wireless charging support.

Similar to most of its wearable devices, the Gear S2 runs on Tizen OS. Without specifying the number of apps, Samsung states that "a variety of apps optimized for the Gear S2’s circular user interface will be available at launch." The company is also working to enrich the wearable ecosystem so that users can enjoy a more optimized and unique experience.

The Gear S2 and Gear S2 will be showcased at IFA 2015 and we are likely to hear more from Samsung then on its availability and pricing.
