Samsung to Unveil Advanced 4G Variant of Galaxy S4

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S4 (left) in March this year.

Update on 4th July: Qualcomm has confirmed today that its Snapdragon 800 processor will power the new Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE-A model.

The original news published on 18th June is as follows:-

Samsung is not done with the Galaxy S4 family as it is planning to unveil another variant of its flagship device as early as this month.

According to Reuters, J.K Shin, co-CEO of Samsung stated the company's intention to bring an advanced 4G variant of the Galaxy S4. The device would be sold in South Korea as early as this month. In addition, Samsung is in talks with several overseas carriers to bring the device to more markets.

The new Galaxy S4 will use LTE-Advanced 4G technology, which can deliver double the data speeds of existing 4G LTE technologies at up to 150Mbps. It is also expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon prcoessors. Not surprisingly, Shin said that the new variant will cost slightly more than the current model, which has a retail price of S$998.

While it is good to provide choices for consumers, we wonder if the multiple launches of different variants of the Galaxy S4 would instead confuse consumers. At the point of publication, Samsung has six Galaxy S4 models which are the original flagship model, the Google Edition, the Galaxy S4 mini, the Galaxy S4 Active, the Galaxy S4 Zoom and the upcoming model.
