Samsung to trademark "Always On Display", possible debut on the Galaxy S7

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge may have a new feature, Always On Display.

According to SamMobile, the Korean company has filed an application to trademark the term "Always On Display". The timing of the application hints that this feature could potentially debut on the Galaxy S7 series and Samsung may want to avoid any legal issues.

Since Samsung's flagship smartphones typically use AMOLED displays, an Always On Display will not have significant drain on the battery. With self-emitting pixels on an AMOLED panel, important information such as time, date, weather and notifications can be displayed without consuming too much power. The Always On Display feature came into the spotlight three years ago when Motorola introduced it on the Moto X.
