Television vendors would publish flattering sales figures from time to time to cement their position in the HDTV industry. On the other hand, if you prefer to obtain these numbers from a neutral source, here's a brief summary from Displaybank on recent global flat-screen TV shipments secured by major brands. According to the Korean display research firm, Samsung snagged the lion's share for both CCFL and LED back-lit LCD TV units shipped worldwide in February 2011. The Seoul-based CE giant also captured 20.5% of the LCD TV market share, followed closely by LG Electronics (15.8%) and Sony (9.2%).
HDTVtest - Samsung was the leading TV brand for both CCFL (cold-cathode fluorescent lamp) and LED (light-emitting diode) LCD TVs shipped worldwide in February 2011, according to market research and consulting firm Displaybank. However, overall global flat-screen television shipments are expected to miss the combined targets set by HDTV manufacturers for the first quarter of this year, due in part to sluggish demand from developed North American and European markets.
As for LED variants, Samsung chomped up 25% of the LED TV market, followed by LG (14.9%) and Sharp (13.5%) respectively.
