Samsung signs another deal to supply Apple with 60 million OLED panels
Samsung has entrenched itself as the main supplier of OLED panels for Apple with yet another massive deal.
The Investor reports that Samsung Display has signed a new deal worth US$4.3 billion with Apple to supply an additional 60 million OLED panels for the next generation iPhone.
Given that Samsung also won a US$2.59 billion deal with Apple last year to supply 100 million OLED panels, the Korean company would contribute about 160 million OLED panels which will make up almost 80% of the 200 million iPhones sales that Apple sells annually.
LG and other display suppliers are said to be investing in machinery and equipment to mass produce OLED displays in hope of becoming secondary suppliers for Apple next year. While Apple is rumored to be launching three iPhone models this year, only one model is expected to sport the OLED display.
