Samsung Mobile has confirmed in a tweet that it will be holding an event on the first day of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014.
The event, known as Unpacked5 2014 Episode 1, could be a reference to the upcoming flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S5 although a Samsung spokesperson told The Verge that the company declined to provide more information on what "5" means.
In January alone, we've seen three conflicting reports on the launch date for the Galaxy S5. Dong-hoon Chang, the EVP and Head of Design Team for Samsung’s IT and Mobile Communications division told Korean news site inews24 that the Galaxy S5 will be announced at MWC 2014.
A week later, an Italian journalist claimed that a London launch event was planned in mid March. Lee Young Hee, the executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business revealed to Bloomberg that the Galaxy S5 will be released by April alongside the next generation Galaxy Gear smart watch.
The Galaxy S5 is alleged to be powered by a 64-bit Exynos 6 processor and sports an AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. It is also rumored to be equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera and has a multi-party conference call feature. You also can expect the device to come in both metal and plastic variants.
