Samsung’s biometric tech goes beyond facial recognition and fingerprint scanning

Samsung currently has the most number of security features on its flagship smartphones which include iris scanning, facial recognition, fingerprint sensor, pattern and pin code). The South Korean company might add another feature to the list - palm scanning.

Based on Samsung's patent application, palm scanning helps to ensure that the user requesting for a password hint is the owner of the device. This is different from the five security features mentioned earlier.

Samsung's palm scanning feature requires the front-facing camera to take a photo of the palm. When it "authenticates" the identity of the owner, the password hint would be scattered across the lines of the palm in a random manner so that any outside glancing at the screen is unable to figure it out while being simple enough for the owner to recall the forgotten password.

It is unlikely that this palm scanning feature will debut on the Galaxy S9 smartphone. The upcoming flagship smartphone is rumored to come with an iris scanner and facial recognition feature which work faster.
