Other than TVs that are huge, long, and curved, Samsung is also seeking to make its TVs smarter in 2014. According to the TV and smartphone giant, it’ll be showcasing its 2014 smart TV lineup at CES in Las Vegas this coming January that delivers ‘significantly improved voice interaction and motion control features’.

A key part of this enhanced usability is enabled by improvements made to the company’s existing voice interaction service (which will see itself expanded into a dozen more new markets in the coming year), such as focusing on the most frequently-used functions and by taking into consideration usage patterns. For example, on the new TVs, to change the channel, users only need to say the channel number (i.e., there’s no need to preempt the TV with the ‘channel change’ command). And for simple searches like weather, stocks and sports information, a pop-up will appear at the bottom of the page, with search results that users can interact with.

Motion control usability is also improved through the adding of a new ‘finger gesture’. From what we understand, instead of wild (read: silly) arm swings, users can now control the TV (e.g. changing channels, adjusting volume) using just their fingers. We’ve no doubt this is possible due to advances made in the TVs’ built-in camera.
