Samsung rumored to unveil foldable smartphone and tablet hybrid in 2017
Rumors about Samsung working on a foldable mobile device have been circulating for three years since the company showed off its flexible YOUM OLED displays at CES 2013. A patent application filed in December 2015 also revealed that Samsung is looking at scrollable, tab-style and bendable smartphones. Now, a report from Korean publication ETNews suggests that such a device is coming to the market sometime next year.
ETNews claims that Samsung is working on a smartphone and tablet hybrid device known as the "smartlet". It functions as a 5-inch smartphone and can unfold into a 7-inch tablet when the need arises. The Korean company is said to be mass producing the "smartlet" by end of this year with the aim of launching it in the market sometime in 2017.
SamMobile reported last June that Samsung was also developing a smartphone with two foldable displays under the project codename "Valley". Back then, it was still in the early stages of development and was rumored to be launched this year.
