Samsung to Release Galaxy Smartphone with Three-Sided Display?
Not satisfied with announcing the world's first curved display smartphone, Samsung is said to be working on a Galaxy smartphone with a three-sided display for 2014.
According to Bloomberg, two people familiar with the plans claim that the smartphone will utilize an upgraded version of Samsung's flexible YOUM display technology, which is used in the recently announced Galaxy Round. It is unclear at the moment whether Samsung will use the new display technology on the Galaxy S or Galaxy Note series or create a new product category.
The three-sided display will wrap around the edges of the device so that messages can be read from an angle. While Samsung is reported to have no specific release schedule for the device, Bloomberg's source said that it is likely to be announced in the second half of 2014.
Last month saw Samsung and LG battling each other with their launch of smartphone with curved displays. LG unveiled the G Flex smartphone in late October, which has a 6-inch 720p display and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.3GHz processor.
As the availability of these devices is limited to a few countries, it remains to be seen whether curved and flexible displays will be a hit with consumers.
