Samsung Puts 10nm 128Gb 3-bit Cell Flash into Mass Production
Samsung has just announced that it will be putting its new 10nm 128Gb (gigabit), 3-bit multi-level cell NAND memory chip into mass production. The new memory chip will enable higher density storage solutions.
Specifically, Samsung will use the new chip to expand supply of 128GB memory cards and also increase its production volume of SSDs with over 500GB of storage capacity. Samsung will also use the new chips to transition its notebook offerings from traditional mechanical hard disks to flash storage.
Despite the high density, Samsung claims that performance of up to 400Mbps is still possible. Could this be yet another nail in the coffin for traditional mechanical hard disks?
