October looks set to be a hotbed of smartphone activity, with major players like Apple and HTC announcing their devices within days of each other. Of course, Samsung isn't planning to turn up on stage empty-handed either; the Korean chaebol has already started sending out invites for their Unpacked event at CTIA on the 11th of October. The event will be held in conjunction with Google and will revolve around Android. In other words, expect the Samsung Nexus Prime and Google's Ice Cream Sandwich OS to make a grand appearance.
All Things D - Samsung has just sent out press invites for an Oct. 11 event that could mark the unveiling for Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android. In addition to Samsung executives, I’m hearing Android chief Andy Rubin could be making an appearance.
The event, which will take place at the same time and city as the CTIA trade show in San Diego, features Samsung Mobile’s standard “unpacked” name, but notes it is the “Google Edition.”
Given Samsung's track record for aggressive product pushing (Galaxy Tab 10.1 at MWC 2011; Galaxy Tab 8.9 at CTIA 2011) and Google's promise that the Ice Cream Sandwich OS will debut this year, this might be the definitive Samsung/Google event of the year. Was yesterday's video leak of the OS running on a Nexus S an authentic affirmation of what to expect? Keep your eyes peeled for a live streaming of the event on youtube.com/android.
