Samsung to continue using heat pipes for its smartphones next year?

Samsung is reportedly planning to use heat pipes for its smartphones next year.

Sources in the upstream supply chain told DigiTimes that Samsung will continue to use the thermal heat pipe design and its suppliers have already started small volume production of components for the heat pipes. Due to the high prices of heat pipes, heat pipes are believed to be only used in flagship models such as the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note9.

DigiTimes also added that smartphone makers are looking at vapor chambers for heat dissipation and there is a possibility of vapor chambers appearing in commercial devices in 2019. While vapor chambers are more expensive and thicker than heat pipes, they have better heat dissipation efficiency. Smartphone makers are pushing for the design of vapor chambers to be thinner so that they will not affect the slim design of their devices.
