Rumor: Motorola and ASUS To Build Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 Successors Respectively

The current Nexus 10 tablet is made by Samsung. Will its successor be made by ASUS?

Google’s Nexus devices have always been popular among Android users because they run the vanilla versions of the OS, and are always the first to receive the latest updates. The current Nexus 4 is manufactured by LG; the Nexus 7 (both the 2012 and 2013 versions) by ASUS; and the Nexus 10 by Samsung.

With the new still-ASUS-made Nexus 7 and the Motorola-made Moto X (Motorola is owned by Google, in case you don’t know) now official, the attention now turns to the successors of the existing Nexus 4 and Nexus 10. And if rumors were true, they will be made by Motorola and ASUS respectively.

For the new Nexus smartphone (we think Nexus X has a nice ring to it), the hint came from Taylor Wimberly, founder of Android and Me. Why the trust in his words? That’s because of his accuracy in his previous Moto X leaks. According to him, the new smartphone will arrive in “Q4”. The shift from LG to Motorola sounds reasonable, considering Google’s relationship with Motorola, and the fact that LG itself has previously stated that it’d not be making the next Nexus phone.

Now, for the new larger-sized Nexus 10 tablet, Geek.com’s Russell Holly said its manufacturing would land in the hands of ASUS. It's expected to be in time for the holiday season. No specs are revealed, but a Snapdragon SoC powering a 2,560 x 1,600-pixel screen and Android 4.3 look to be a given. Again, not too big of a surprise if it's true, considering ASUS has done a good job so far with the Nexus 7 tablets.
