Rumor: First image from A7R II posted on Flickr?

SonyAlphaRumors has been closely tracking news of the rumored A7R II over the last few months, and they’ve recently come across an image posted on the Carl Zeiss Flickr page that is supposed to have been shot on an A7R, but yet has the equivalent dimensions of an image taken by a 56-megapixel sensor.

SAR draws only three possible conclusions from this, and we concur:

  1. Zeiss up-sized the images.
  2. This is multi-shift created image taken by the A7II as a test of a new feature that might be coming in a future update (which is unlikely because multi-shot images only work well on static objects).
  3. The images were shot with the A7R II (It may even have been a crop given that the image isn’t in the usual 3:2 image ratio)

All exif data has been removed from the image, which is unusual if the camera used was really the A7R as listed on Flickr, so it certainly begs the question.

All the rumors point to the A7R II being released sometime between mid-May and June, so hopefully we’ll find out soon!
