Rumor: Apple's Upcoming iPhone, iPad Mini Facing Mass Production Delays
Apple's upcoming iPhones and iPad Minis are reportedly facing production delays. According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo, such woes may result in their delayed launches, especially the new iPhone that is widely expected to be available in June this year.
For the new iPhone or "iPhone 5S", Kuo claimed that one of the holdups is the integration of fingerprint scanning technology that will allow users to unlock the device without having to enter a passcode. The hurdle for Apple is figuring out how to prevent the coating material used under the device's cover glass, which is supposedly causing interference to the fingerprint scanner.
Another hurdle is the development of iOS 7 and its integration with the fingerprint scanning software. Also, more time is needed for software development as well as testing with this new operating system. As for the new iPad mini, Apple is speculated to feature a high-resolution Retina display with the device, and the company's decision is expected to make the device more difficult to manufacture, which could possibly result in delayed shipments. KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo, who has a strong track record in revealing Apple's future product roadmaps, shared a "research note" with Apple Insider that contained information highlighting these potential production hurdles.
