Report: LG Display wants to be Xiaomi's top display supplier

According to the report, LG will be competing with Samsung when it comes to supplying large panels to Xiaomi.

We know that Xiaomi is growing and is expected to ship more than 60 million smartphones this year. And with a goal of 100 million smartphones set for 2015, there’s perhaps no better time to be a components or parts supplier for the young and ambitious Chinese company.

According to a report, LG Display is planning to capitalize on this to become Xiaomi’s top smartphone display supplier. In the report, industry insiders revealed that LG intends to supply more than 10 million 5-inch full HD panels to Xiaomi next year, up from the 2.3 million 5.5-inch 720p panels it has supplied to Xiaomi this year.

Furthermore, LG Display is also looking to supply large panels to Xiaomi for use in its tablets and TV sets. This certainly makes sense, as the current Mi TV 2, a low-cost 49-inch 4K TV, is already using an LG-made 4K panel. But LG will be facing fierce competition in this area; it’s revealed that Xiaomi has visited Samsung Display a while ago to discuss the supply of large panels.
