Razer's new BlackWidow X mechanical keyboards go minimalistic

The Razer BlackWidow X Chroma. Looks like a dream, doesn't it?

Are the 16.8 million different lighting colors of your Razer Chroma-enabled keyboard not ostentatious enough to make heads turn? Perhaps Razer’s new lineup of BlackWidow X mechanical keyboards might just do the trick, as they each feature a minimalistic, stripped-down design that intentionally exposes its underlying "military grade metal top construction".

As you’d expect, Razer has come up with four different variants of the BlackWidow X, with the Razer BlackWidow X Chroma and its tenkeyless counterpart, the Razer BlackWidow X Tournament Edition Chroma, sitting on top of the food chain. They’re both fitted with Razer’s proprietary green mechanical switches (which have a lifespan of 80 million keystrokes), and individually backlit keys that can light up in 16.8 million different colors, if you couldn’t already tell from their Chroma designation.

The Razer BlackWidow X Ultimate. No rainbow-colored lights to be found here.

If you’re more concerned about your budget than your keyboard’s ability to light up like a Christmas tree, the Razer BlackWidow X Ultimate or the tenkeyless Razer BlackWidow X Tournament Edition would be a more sensible proposition. Unlike their Chroma counterparts, both the Razer BlackWidow X Ultimate and the Razer BlackWidow X Tournament Edition can be had with Razer’s green mechanical switches, or the characteristically clicky Cherry MX Blue switches. Surprisingly, only the Razer BlackWidow X Tournament Edition has USB pass-through.

The Razer BlackWidow X Chroma, Razer BlackWidow X Tournament Edition Chroma, and the Razer BlackWidow X Ultimate (with Cherry MX Blue keys only) can now be purchased from Razer’s official online store for S$280, S$230, and S$140, respectively. Strangely, the Razer BlackWidow X Tournament Edition is nowhere to be seen (yet), which is really a shame, considering that it’s priced at an undeniably reasonable US$70 over in the US.
