Razer today announced a revamp of its Mamba wireless gaming mouse, including a host of new features like a 16,000dpi laser sensor and what Razer calls Adjustable Click Force Technology.

This makes it the third time that Razer has updated its top-end gaming mouse with new sensor technology. The 2012 second-generation iteration of the mouse featured a 4G dual optical and laser sensor that could track up to a resolution of 6,400dpi.

The 2015 Razer Mamba will boast a 5G laser sensor that is capable of tracking up to 16,000dpi. 4K displays aren’t really mainstream yet, but that high a resolution would certainly come in handy for users who are running triple 4K monitors.

Gamers will also have the option to adjust the dpi down to 1dpi increments, a nice touch given that many mouse drivers only allow users to work with 50dpi increments. Razer says that the sensor is also able to track lift-off-cut-off distance up to 0.1mm, a feature that gamers who play at low sensitivities should appreciate.

Razer’s Adjustable Click Force Technology offers a level of customizability that we don’t see every day in a mouse. Even though many gaming mice use Omron switches for their left and right clicks, the amount of feedback and force required to actuate a click can vary from mouse to mouse, which could either make or break the deal for the choosy gamer.

However, the new Razer Mamba will allow gamers to set the mouse’s click force, choosing from up to 14 distinct choices.

In addition, the Razer Mamba will join Razer’s Chroma family of devices with support for Choma’s 16.8 million colors and an array of lighting effects. Users will even be able to sync the lighting colors and effects on their Mamba with other Chroma-enabled devices via Razer Synapse.

Razer also announced a wired version of the Mamba targeted at gamers who prefer the lower latencies and better reliability of wired mice, called the Razer Mamba Tournament Edition. Targeted at professional gamers, the Tournament Edition mouse shares all the features of its wireless sibling, except for the Adjustable Click Force Technology.

As a finishing touch, Razer has made the Chroma SDK publically available to game developers, which will allow them to interact directly with Chroma-enabled devices and create customized lighting effects for a more immersive gameplay experience.

Both versions of the Mamba are expected to be available in the third quarter of 2015. The Razer Mamba will retail for US$149.99, while the Tournament edition will be cheaper at US$89.99.
