Radeon HD 6900 Series Release Roundup

Last week saw the launch of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570. We consolidated and pitted its add-in card partners against each other. Here comes two more comparable GPUs, just introduced last week - the much-anticipated AMD Radeon HD 6970 and HD 6950, both from the HD 6900 series.

There are similarities in specifications across all the add-in card partner brands (when compared to the reference cards) for both HD 6970 and HD 6950 respectively, except for ASUS, which stood out, having overclocked an extra 10MHz for its core clock for each of its 2 graphic cards.

In short, both HD 6970 and 6950 are aimed at gamers and consumers who demand better performance. Boasting a gigantic 2GB of frame buffer, these two new cards are the fastest single GPU offerings from AMD, driving up to six monitors each. However, when we compared the HD 6970 to the GTX 570, we found that the latter was slightly faster and less expensive.

Here's a brief introduction of the two GPUs from AMD.
