Qualcomm blocked Samsung from selling Exynos processors to other phone makers

Apple is not the only company that is unfairly treated by Qualcomm. In the U.S Federal Trade Commision (FTC) 's resolution on the case of Qualcomm's abuse of its market power, it was revealed that Qualcomm stopped Samsung from selling its Exynos processors to other phone makers.

Apparently, the "standard essential patent" license signed by Samsung prevents the Korean company from selling its modems and processors for 25 years! The unfair practice could be an attempt by Qualcomm to block competition from Samsung's Exynos processors which deliver comparable or even better performance than their Snapdragon counterparts.

The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) has already fined Qualcomm US$853 million last year for unfair patent licensing, which is the largest fine ever in South Korea. The FTC also sued Qualcomm in January for anti-competitive policies. Apple has filed four lawsuits to date against Qualcomm over royalty fees.
